The sports industry isn’t supposed to be political.
But some people simply cannot keep their mouth shut about their opinions.
And one announcer for the NBA made his views very clear on live TV.
The NBA has a long track record of being the most left-wing professional sports league in America.
While NFL players and coaches have been more restrained in their political views in recent years, it’s become standard in the NBA for coaches like Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich to voice their left-wing opinions.
Even broadcasters for the NBA like Stan Van Gundy are known for being very left-wing.
This came up in a big way during a recent game where Kamala Harris and her husband were in attendance.
According to left-leaning sports site, Awful Announcing:
“President Donald Trump is currently busy doing whatever it is he’s doing to American democracy. Meanwhile, former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is trying to enjoy civilian life.”
“She and her husband, Doug Emhoff, attended Thursday night’s NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers in Crypto.com Arena. TNT cameras spotted the former VP coming out of a commercial, and announcer Brian Anderson took note while analyst Stan Van Gundy waited for his spot.”
“‘Former Vice President, presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the building tonight,’ said Anderson. ‘Doug by her side. They have seen this game go from a lopsided affair to a tight one…’”
“‘Gotta tell you, Brian, I’m a big Kamala Harris fan,’ said Van Gundy. ‘But I wish she wasn’t here tonight.’”
It was probably jarring for viewers who just wanted to watch the game to have to hear Van Gundy gush about Kamala Harris.
But Van Gundy has a significant track record of being a vocal left-wing Democrat.
He recently went after Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. –Trump’s cabinet nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services – and called him a “clown” in a brutal attack.
The NBA’s reputation as the most left-wing professional sports league is still strong.
