This is a sad turn of events for J.D. Vance.
He had a close friend who had always been there for him.
But then his friend betrayed him over politics.
When J.D. Vance was in law school at Yale, he became close friends with Jamil Jivani from Canada.
While not all friends that are made in college last past graduation, Vance and Jivani actually stayed in touch and continued to visit each other even after Vance got in with the Trump campaign as VP.
Jivani himself got involved in politics with the Conservative Party in Canada.
He ended up becoming a member of Parliament and has risen to prominence in much the same way that Vance has in the United States.
Unfortunately, Donald Trump has made comments about Canada that have been very controversial.
Jivani clearly did not take too kindly to those comments by Trump, or Vance’s association with him, and now he is publicly disparaging Vance.
According to Politico, “JD Vance’s close friend from Canada is taking back his open invite for the vice president to visit.”
“Conservative MP Jamil Jivani, who became close with Vance at Yale Law School 15 years ago, said it would not be ‘constructive’ for the VP to visit his Toronto-area district right now given the Trump administration’s provocations toward Canada.”
Jivani also made it sound like these political considerations have had an impact on their personal friendship as well.
The article continues, “It’s a reversal from how he felt in December, when he accepted an invitation to dine with Vance in Arlington, Virginia. Jivani was also in Washington for Inauguration Day.”
“Jivani represents a suburban and rural area that employs thousands of auto workers at a GM plant that makes the Chevrolet Silverado. People in the community are anxious about tariffs on the auto sector and President Donald Trump’s annexation threats, Jivani said.”
“‘We haven’t talked in a while,’ Jivani said when asked about the status of the friendship.”
