Things just changed significantly for Donald Trump.
News suddenly broke of a shocking arrest.
And now all of Trump’s plans will have to change.
One of the key things Donald Trump is having to decide is what his policies will be on foreign relations and national security.
South Korea is one of our most important allies in the Pacific region and Trump will need to work closely with them to counteract the growing power of Communist China.
But now the president of South Korea has been arrested.
In a move that shocked the world, the president of South Korea first declared martial law and then bunkered himself inside his home in an attempt to remain in power after being impeached and stripped of his presidential position.
According to Reuters, “Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested and questioned for hours by investigators on Wednesday in relation to a criminal insurrection probe, ending a weeks-long standoff with authorities.”
“His arrest, the first ever for a sitting president in South Korea, is the latest head-spinning development in one of Asia’s most vibrant democracies, even though the country has a history of prosecuting and imprisoning former leaders.”
Essentially, Yoon Suk Yeol actually did what Democrats accused Trump in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
“Since lawmakers voted to impeach and strip him of his duties after his short-lived Dec. 3 declaration of martial law, Yoon has been holed up at his hillside residence, guarded by a small army of presidential security staff who blocked a previous arrest attempt earlier this month,” Reuters reports.
“On Wednesday he turned himself in for questioning at the corruption investigation offices after more than 3,000 police officers seeking to arrest him marched on his residence before dawn.”
This is a major curveball for Donald Trump – and right before taking office.
He’ll have to decide how to respond accordingly without it negatively impacting his strategy to counteract Communist China’s influence on the region.
This is a developing story with almost certainly more twists to come.
