Chuck Schumer is sweating bullets.
He knows that his Senate Democrat majority is about to come crashing down.
And now, one top liberal election pundit just delivered devastating news that left Schumer fuming.
It’s official, the battle for control of the US Senate is a tossup.
After months of Democrats spiking the football and claiming that they couldn’t possibly lose control over the upper chamber of Congress, opinion polls across the country show that in the closing weeks of the midterm campaign season, Democrats are crumbling under the weight of crippling inflation, out of control crime, and an immigration crisis on the southern border.
And the election models Democrats relied on so much to bolster their claim that nothing could possibly go wrong have finally begun to turn against them.
Now, Nate Silver, the liberal election forecaster who remains a darling of the Left, has now published a new op-ed revealing that he thinks the Senate could be about to flip to Republican control, after months of Democrats pointing to his 538 election site to bolster their own claims that there was no way they could lose.
“The Senate started out as a toss-up when we launched our forecast in June — and after a summer in which political developments mostly played to Democrats’ favor, there is now clear movement back toward Republicans. The FiveThirtyEight Senate forecast gives Democrats a 58 percent chance of keeping control of the Senate, down from a peak of 71 percent last month,” writes Silver.
“But the main reason why I think of the race for control of the Senate as a toss-up — rather than slightly favoring Democrats — is because there’s been steady movement toward the GOP in our model over the past few weeks.”
538’s Senate forecast once said that Democrats had over 70% odds of holding onto the upper chamber of Congress.
Now, with just weeks to go until election day, the odds have almost come back to a 50/50 split, with Democrats barely clinging on to what is now a 57% chance of holding the chamber.
This sounds like the Democrats still are favored to win, but the trendline over the last two weeks shows that the party is in panic mode as the odds of a Democrat victory in Senate elections has crumbled in recent days.
And no one is panicking more than Chuck Schumer.
Schumer knows that Democrats are rapidly losing control of the narrative, and that if current trends continue, Republicans will have a greater than 50% chance of flipping the Senate.
And without control of the Senate, not only would Schumer himself be powerless, but Joe Biden would find much of his agenda in trouble, as the Senate could block many of Biden’s proposed policies from going forward.
“The bottom line is this: If you’d asked me a month ago — or really even a week ago — which party’s position I’d rather be in, I would have said the Democrats. Now, I honestly don’t know,” concludes Nate Silver.
