Elon Musk may not be safe right now.
The government has not been able to figure out any way to stop him.
Now one prominent Democrat is demanding that he be arrested.
All of the usual tactics that the federal government and the establishment use to try to control people have failed when it comes to Elon Musk, one of the most powerful men on the planet.
His goal of making social media a place of free speech instead of censorship has proven to be so important to him that he is willing to endure everything the establishment throws at him.
That’s why they are so baffled by him and scared about what he could do to their power, and they are not sure what to do.
Unfortunately, the arrest by the French government of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, may have given them some ideas.
Robert Reich, the former Labor Secretary under Bill Clinton, has demanded that Elon Musk be threatened with arrest and presumably actually arrested if he continues his push for free speech.
And the risk is growing that more powerful people might get on board with this idea.
According to the Economic Times, “Elon Musk, according to former labor secretary Robert Reich, is out of control, and authorities should threaten arrest. In a column that was published on Friday, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who held the position under Bill Clinton’s administration, argued that Elon Musk should be restrained because he was beyond control. He might be the wealthiest person on the planet. One of the most significant social media networks in the world might be owned by him. But that doesn’t mean no one can’t stop him, Reich wrote while offering a list of six actions that people could take to hold Musk more accountable.”
Of course, Reich is suggesting the government effectively suspend the Constitution in an attempt to imprison Musk.
The Constitution does not allow for the government to imprison someone for attempting to promote free speech.
The article continues, “Reich called Musk’s 2022 acquisition of Twitter, now known as X, dangerous nonsense. It was just about power, he claimed, not free speech, that motivated Musk’s purchase. Regulators around the world should threaten Musk with arrest if he doesn’t stop disseminating lies and hate on X, Reich continued, urging people to boycott Tesla and X.”
It’s clear that Reich’s post is dripping with fear, as he is worried that Musk poses a threat to the entire political program that he and his allies have pushed for decades.
This program depends on the ability of the federal government to suppress people who disagree with it, a task made much harder by Musk’s ownership of X.
There may not be an immediate risk of Musk being arrested, and thankfully he has the Constitution firmly on his side, but this idea may grow in popularity on the Left.
And if Democrats remain in power, there is no guarantee that they might not eventually act on it if Musk continues pushing free speech.
