The Fourth Amendment is dying a slow and painful death.
And unless Americans demand their civil liberties back, it will not be saved.
Now, a bombshell has come out about the U.S. government’s involvement in a major spying scandal.
The Pegasus scandal was one of the biggest spying scandals that has come out since the Snowden revelations in 2013.
This technology, from an Israeli company, was used to hack cell phones and crush free speech all around the world.
It targeted ordinary citizens who dissented from their government’s agenda, as well as journalists, critics, and activists.
Now, it has been revealed that the U.S. government was intimately involved in the attempted procurement of the Pegasus spying apparatus by a shady defense contractor called L3 Harris.
According to the Daily Mail, “the American defense contractor L3 Harris attempts to buy the Pegasus spying and hacking technology from a banned Israeli company was backed by US government officials.”
As soon as the negotiations were made public, the defense contractor ran and hid to avoid the negative PR backlash.
“L3 Harris abandoned negotiations with NSO Group after their talks were widely reported in June.”
The reason the U.S. government supported this deal is because they thought they could use it for the purpose of civil liberties attacks here in the U.S., as well as in allied countries.
“That support was conditional on NSO Group allowing for their ‘zero days’ technology, a piece of tech that allows Pegasus to hack into cell phones, to be sold to the so-called other members of Five Eyes, an intelligence community featuring the US, along with Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand.”
“Speaking to the Washington Post, an anonymous US government official said that after the reports of the talks were made public, an L3 Harris representative told the Biden administration that the talks were off.”
This isn’t the first time the US government and NSO Group, which owns the Pegasus technology, have been in contact.
“US government agencies were contacted by the NSO Group, an Israeli cyberweapons firm, multiple times between 2019 and last summer over a possible deal involving Pegasus, according to the New York Times Magazine,” the Daily Mail article continues.
“The firm, which has been accused of aiding human rights abuses in nations across the globe, demonstrated a new system, called ‘Phantom,’ during a presentation to officials in Washington, that could hack into any phone nationwide.”
Why would the U.S. government be so interested in being able to hack into any phone nationwide?
The U.S. government’s use of rapidly advancing technology to create an omnipresent spying apparatus is the single biggest threat to liberty in our nation today.
It gives the Intelligence Community, a collection of agencies consisting of unelected officials that have no democratic accountability, virtually unlimited power over American politics.
They can gather info on political candidates, and then leak that info as they see fit in order to get their preferred candidates elected.
Unless the American people demand that their power be taken away, it will only continue to grow, and American liberty will die.
