This Republican is supporting the most left-wing presidential nominee of all time.
He went off the rails and publicly endorsed Kamala Harris.
Now there is widespread controversy after this shocking endorsement.
The fact that Jeff Flake, a former Republican senator from Arizona, doesn’t like Donald Trump is not exactly breaking news to people who have been observing politics for the past 10 years.
He was very vocal about his differences from Trump while he was serving as a senator during Trump’s first term in office, and few would have expected him to campaign for Trump.
The fact that he isn’t going out of his way to help Trump is not surprising, but what is more surprising is that he went so far as to endorse Kamala Harris.
After all, Flake claimed for his whole career that he was a conservative. Meanwhile, Harris is the most left-wing Democrat nominee of all time.
Endorsing Joe Biden would be one thing, as Biden is very progressive but also gives off a veneer of bipartisanship.
But Kamala Harris was statistically the most left-wing member of the Senate during her time there, even more than Bernie Sanders. And Flake just endorsed her.
Flake was asked on ABC by host Martha Raddatz: “You broke some news this morning on X announcing that you will support and endorse Kamala Harris. Why now?”
Here is how he responded: “Well, I couldn’t do it much before obviously as ambassador. You can’t participate in partisan politics, but I’m certainly happy to do so now.”
“I think Republicans believe in the rule of law in particular, and it’s difficult to support a candidate who, having lost an election, tries to use the powers of the presidency to overturn that election. That is anything but respect for the rule of law. So I know that a lot of Conservative Republicans feel the way I do, that you just can’t support a candidate like that.”
Flake didn’t exactly answer the question. No one asked him to reiterate his issues with Donald Trump, those are widely known already.
The question was about his decision to endorse Harris, who has extreme progressive views that will harm America.
Flake continued, “Vice President Harris can win Arizona, and I think she’s gaining here. So, I think she ought to court all voters. I do believe that that includes moderate Republicans and Conservative Republicans who believe in the rule of law and limited government to economic freedom and individual responsibility. She ought to court everyone, and I think she’ll do well here.”
Once again, Flake utterly failed to give an answer as to why he endorsed Harris.
The fact that he doesn’t like Trump is not sufficient. He did not have to endorse anybody. There is no requirement that he endorse a candidate.
The fact that he kept saying she “ought to court all voters” implies that she is not currently courting “all voters” – perhaps because she is a radical progressive.
Jeff Flake made a very poor decision to endorse Kamala Harris.
