He is putting his foot down and making sure people obey the law.
Now he has put out a warning to any illegal immigrant who decides to try looting from people’s homes.
Hurricane Ian has been yet another leadership test for Gov. Ron DeSantis, and he has passed it with flying colors.
As the destruction has piled up in southwestern Florida, some people have tried taking advantage of the situation and stealing from people’s damaged homes.
In many Democrat-run states, those people would be released from jail immediately and allowed to go back on the streets and loot some more.
But DeSantis has made sure in Florida that is not the case.
According to the Daily Mail, “Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revealed Tuesday that three of the four looting suspects arrested in Lee County were in the United States illegally.”
“The Republican executive made the revelation during a news conference in Fort Myers on Tuesday as he gave an update about the response to Hurricane Ian.”
“DeSantis focused on ‘law and order’ in southwest Florida and drew a connection between that and his opposition to President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.”
DeSantis had this to say: “These are people that are foreigners, they’re illegally in our country, but not only that, they try to loot and ransack in the aftermath of a natural disaster. They should be prosecuted, but they need to be sent back to their home country. They should not be here at all.”
He’s absolutely right, of course.
When someone crosses the border illegally, they are already committing a crime. And while most people who do so come here just to try and find work, some people come here looking to commit crimes.
Those people need to be sent out of this country immediately, no matter what Left-wing politicians and activists try to say.
The article continues, “The four men were arrested on charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure during a state of emergency, according to online jail records.”
“The individuals, aged between 20 and 33, were booked for ransacking devastated homes and businesses on Fort Myers Beach while they suffered in the wake of the raging torrent.”
Fort Myers Beach, and other communities in southwest Florida such as Fort Myers and Naples, have suffered tremendously as a result of this storm.
There’s no need for them to suffer more as a result of opportunists who want to get rich off of the misery of others.
Many people have given their time and money to help Florida recover after the storm, and fortunately those people far outnumber the number of looters.
And as DeSantis made clear, the people who committed these acts will not be allowed to remain in the United States to commit more crimes.
Florida is dealing with a lot right now, but they are lucky to have a Governor who has proven he will take charge and look out for their interests.
