It has been a rough month for Pete Buttigieg.
Once hailed as a potential nominee for president, Buttigieg’s career has been derailed.
And now, he may be forced to resign as Joe Biden’s secretary of Transportation.
Pete Buttigieg went from left-wing darling and potential future presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, to battling for his political career in the span of barely a month.
After a Norfolk Southern train derailed in Ohio while carrying toxic chemicals, Buttigieg ignored the crisis even after animals began to fall sick and die.
And when residents pointed out that their drinking water and rivers were being contaminated, Buttigieg refused to visit the site.
It was only after the crisis became national news that Buttigieg decided to visit Ohio, and only for a series of photo ops.
Now, he is being raked over the coals for his lackluster response to the disaster, choosing to sit on his hands rather than handle one of the only responsibilities that his job entails.
And Buttigieg may soon find himself without any job at all.
Fox News reports, “A House Republican on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, adding to the swell of demands that he step down for his handling of the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment and an ongoing probe into his use of private jets.”
“Pete Buttigieg has shown that he is unfit to lead the Department of Transportation and must resign immediately,” said Georgia Republican Mike Collins on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Demands for Buttigieg’s resignation have only grown since he visited East Palestine, weeks after the crash first took place.
Shortly after that visit, Buttigieg himself described the entire trip as “performative” during an interview with CNN.
And now, those words are coming back to haunt him in a major way.
“From his first day in office, he has been more focused on diversity training and identity politics than on building and maintaining America’s transportation system,” Collins said in his floor speech. “He has abandoned his department’s mission of improving the safety, technology and efficiency of our infrastructure in favor of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.”
With Joe Biden’s recent focus on nonsense like “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” companies like Norfolk Southern are feeling the pressure from the White House to spend money on useless programs that promote wokeism in the workplace rather than on critical infrastructure and safety.
To that point, Collins himself has blamed Buttigieg for holding some responsibility for the crash, as Buttigieg has been a major proponent of using the federal government to impose woke “DEI initiatives” on the private sector.
And now, he’s demanding Buttigieg’s resignation.
Fox News concludes, “Collins is one of 10 GOP co-sponsors of a resolution calling on Buttigieg to resign. That resolution says Buttigieg’s ‘ineptitude has jeopardized the safety and prosperity of the American people,’ and notes that he was ‘absent during a historical supply chain crisis when United States ports faced a record backlog of ships stranded off of United States coasts.’”
