This is a brave move by Pam Bondi.
She wants to protect people from being persecuted for their faith.
And she is making a bold move to stop a terrifying attack on Christians.
As the creeping force of secularism has continued in society over the past few decades, the government has had less respect than ever before for people’s religious consciences.
Even though the First Amendment protects freedom of religion, the government has often taken a very loose approach to actually defending that right in a serious way.
Politicians have attempted to push things like contraception mandates for insurance companies and even abortion mandates for hospitals.
While not all of these have ultimately passed, some have made their way into the law, and courts have been forced to strike down some particularly egregious examples.
In the case of Franciscan Alliance v. Becerra, a court had to block the Department of Health and Human Services from requiring Catholic hospitals to perform sex-change procedures.
Now Pam Bondi is trying to simply eliminate laws like this across the board by creating a task force to go after violations of religious liberty.
According to Newsweek, “The Trump administration is intensifying efforts to root out what it calls ‘anti-Christian bias’ in the government.”
“The White House in February established the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias in the federal government, led by the attorney general Pam Bondi, aimed at protecting the ‘religious freedoms of Americans” and ending the “anti-Christian weaponization of government.’”
“This week, the task force held its first meeting, at which attendees discussed how they were allegedly ‘unfairly targeted by the Biden Administration for their religious beliefs,’ according to a Justice Department press release.”
It’s good that people like this are finally getting a voice after years of being ignored by the mainstream media or even told that their claims are invalid.
But real people have been targeted for their faith, and there are still people out there who would like to target people of faith, and so the threat is still very real.
The article continues, “The veterans affairs department (VA) has now established its own task force and is ordering staff to report colleagues to the unit for instances of ‘anti-Christian bias,’ according to an email seen by Newsweek.”
“The task force’s remit will also include instances of mistreatment for displaying Christian symbols or declining to participate in activities conflicting with Christian beliefs, and potential discrimination in promotions or discipline of chaplains and staff for religious expression, according to the email.”
It’s good that something is finally being done to root out this type of bias and to restore the protections that are present in the First Amendment of the Constitution.
