One of Joe Biden’s top supporters is siding with the Republicans.
And it is causing chaos in Washington.
Now Joe Biden is terrified that even more of his top supporters are going to abandon him.
Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona has gone rogue from the Democratic Party. In December, she left the party and registered as an independent.
However, she officially still caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate, which allows her to retain her top committee seats.
One might assume that means she is still sympathetic to the Democrats and a Joe Biden supporter. However that is not the case at all.
According to a new report from Politico, “As she races to stockpile campaign money and post an impressive, statement-making first-quarter fundraising number, Sinema has used a series of Republican-dominated receptions and retreats this year to belittle her Democratic colleagues, shower her GOP allies with praise and, in one case, quite literally give the middle finger to President Joe Biden’s White House.”
Keep in mind that this is someone who openly supported Biden in his race for the White House in 2020.
Biden’s administration has been so disastrous that one of his most high-ranking supporters is now literally giving him the middle finger.
The article continues, “Speaking in private, whether one-on-one or with small groups of Republican senators, she’s even more cutting, particularly about Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, whom she derides in harshly critical terms, according to senior Republican officials directly familiar with her comments.”
Later in the article, she goes into detail about how she feels about her old party. “Those lunches were ridiculous,” she said, referring to caucus luncheons that the Democrats hold every week.
She had this to say about her old colleagues: “Old dudes are eating Jell-O, everyone is talking about how great they are. I don’t really need to be there for that. That’s an hour and a half twice a week that I can get back.”
It’s clear that Sinema has given up on the Democratic Party and may be leaning towards caucusing with the Republicans instead.
Their agenda has become so radical that moderate liberals like her have been scared away and are now running into the arms of the Republican Party.
And this could make for a very interesting 2024 Senate election in Arizona.
The article continues, “Some of Sinema’s friends believe she’ll retire rather than risk losing.”
But if she does decide to run again as an independent, she will likely face a left-wing Democrat and a MAGA Republican like Kari Lake, both of whom are unpopular with independent voters in the state.
She could easily split the difference and win a race like that.
That’s why Sinema’s decision to abandon the Democratic Party might have been the smartest decision of her life. There’s no reason to attach herself to a sinking ship.
Joe Biden is in big trouble, though, if he continues to lose the support of top U.S. senators who believe his agenda as president has been too radical.
