Another Democrat-run city is plummeting into disaster.
And the mayor’s latest announcement is going to make things even worse.
Now the Second Amendment is under attack by a radical Leftist mayor.
Jim Kenney was elected mayor of Philadelphia on a radical Leftist platform, and sadly he is living up to that platform every day.
On the 4th of July, Kenney spoke to the media and called for the elimination of the Second Amendment and nationwide gun confiscation.
He spoke glowingly of Justin Trudeau’s dictatorial regime in Canada, which was enabled by the lack of gun ownership among the citizens of that country.
“I was in Canada two weeks ago and never thought about a gun. The only people I knew who had guns in Canada were police officers. That’s the way it should be here,” Kenney said.
Kenney is right – Canada does not have gun rights. It also does not have free speech rights or many of the other rights that we enjoy here in America.
In fact, Canada’s lack of a Bill of Rights is what led directly to the situation they find themselves in now, with an autocratic dictator who rules his country with an iron fist.
Jazz Shaw from HotAir.com had this to say: “Knowing what we know about Jim Kenney, it’s hardly surprising that he would speak admiringly about Canada in this manner. Justin Trudeau is well into the process of trying to disarm his lawful citizens and make it nearly impossible to purchase a firearm. And he has sent people who disagree with him to jail. It’s a socialist autocracy in the making. I’m sure Jim Kenney dreams at night of being able to do things like that. If only it weren’t for our pesky and inconvenient Bill of Rights.”
“Perhaps someone can pull the Mayor aside for a moment and review a few bits of harsh reality with him. The police in Philadelphia all have guns. An increasing number of law-abiding citizens have armed themselves as well. Those people are not the problem.”
The issue with a politician like Jim Kenney, and other Democrat politicians like him, is that they feel zero affinity for the founding principles of the United States.
They have a “safety at all costs” mentality, which requires extreme government control by necessity.
After all, freedom can be chaotic. Government control is much more orderly. China doesn’t have school shootings.
But who would rather live in China than the United States? China is an authoritarian dictatorship that oppresses their people. People who live their have no freedom, no rights, and no dignity.
Is that worth being 0.0001% more “safe” from shootings?
Jim Kenney and people like him would say yes. And if they feel that way, they are welcome to move to China, Canada, or any other country that operates under that mentality.
But for American citizens who cherish their freedom, and aren’t willing to abandon it for the sake of “safety,” the Second Amendment still protects us all from the overreach of politicians like Kenney.
