One major corporation is rejecting woke ideology.
And it’s driving the authoritarian Left insane.
But after Netflix stopped being woke, their business started to boom.
Netflix is one of the biggest streaming platforms in the world. Millions of people use their service to watch movies, TV shows, and stand-up comedy.
Like many corporations these days, Netflix spent many years paying tribute to the “woke” movement.
But that all changed very suddenly when the Left started to come after one of their biggest superstars, world-famous comedian Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle had an exclusive-rights contract with Netflix to put out his latest comedy special. This is not unusual, since Netflix has taken a special interest in the world of stand-up comedy recently.
But when Chappelle made a harmless joke about transgender people, the Left began shrieking with rage and tried to cancel him.
Of course, Chappelle is a comedian – he makes jokes about everybody. White people, black people, transgender people, men, women, gay people, Christians, Jews, Muslims, it doesn’t matter. They’re all fair game.
The Left, however, believes that some groups of people are sacred and should never be joked about.
They believe all jokes should be aimed at “straight white males,” and that those “jokes” shouldn’t really be jokes at all, they should be brutal takedowns.
So they fully expected Netflix to cancel Chappelle.
But then Netflix did something unexpected – they told their woke employees to suck it up or quit.
According to an internal memo they sent out, as reported by The Hill, “Not everyone will like – or agree with – everything on our service. While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes. We let the viewers decide what’s appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices. As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values.”
This memo hit the absolute nail on the head.
Netflix puts out content that some people would find to be “progressive,” and other content that people would find to be “conservative.”
And the employees don’t get to have veto power to censor content they don’t like.
Ever since then, Netflix’s stock has been shooting through the roof.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The stock of the streamer, led by co-CEO’s Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, also jumped more than 10 percent in early trading, reaching $265.18 a few minutes into the trading session. Netflix had added 2.4 million subscribers for a total of 223 million global subs.”
This kind of astronomical growth shows that there really is a benefit to companies that reject woke ideology and just follow common sense policies that treat everyone fairly, whether those people are liberal or conservative.
Netflix did the smart thing, and the results are clear: they are reaping the benefits for making the right decision.
