Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi has no idea how the Constitution works.
After Trump was indicted, she made one comment that sent shockwaves through the political world.
And now Nancy Pelosi is in big trouble after her latest attack on the Constitution.
Nancy Pelosi has spent her entire career trying to destroy the constitutional limits on government power that bind our nation together.
She has tried to take away the Second Amendment rights of Americans, she has attacked the free speech of her political opponents, and she has supported unconstitutional spy programs that target American citizens.
Now, she has revealed that she doesn’t even know how due process works in our country.
According to Newsweek, “Critics have slammed former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi after the Democrat tweeted that former President Donald Trump will have a chance to ‘prove innocence’ in court.
“Pelosi was responding to the decision of a Manhattan grand jury to indict the former president over his alleged role in hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.”
Pelosi, of course, is completely wrong that the former president will have to “prove innocence.” No one who is charged with a crime ever has to “prove innocence.”
The standard in a criminal trial is “guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.” If the jury has even a seed of doubt in their mind that the defendant is guilty, they must acquit.
This legal standard underpins our entire justice system. No matter what your feelings are about the defendant, or how much you think they might potentially be guilty, if you are not absolutely sure, you acquit them.
The article continued, “Some Republicans strongly criticized the way Pelosi had phrased her tweet, pointing to the fact that in the U.S., those accused of crimes are innocent until they’re proven guilty.”
Those Republicans included politicians like Josh Hawley, a senator from Missouri, and Kat Cammack, a 2nd term congresswoman.
“The right to ‘prove innocence’? This is America, not Stalinist Russia,” was what Hawley wrote in response to Pelosi’s comments.
Cammack had this to say: “Weird, I thought the standard was ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ Welcome to Biden and Pelosi’s warped America.”
Pelosi exposed her ignorance and her hatred of the Constitution with this tweet, which is in line with her attacks on the Constitution which she has leveled for her entire political career.
The Soros-backed district attorney in this case will have to provide evidence and prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, otherwise the jury will have to acquit.
Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis has exercised his powers as governor of Florida, where Trump is a constituent, by refusing to extradite him to New York.
It’s clear that this trial is going to deepen the divides in America even further between right and left.
And Nancy Pelosi’s reckless comments didn’t help the situation at all during this tense moment in American politics.
Pelosi provided another example of why Democrat politicians like her who are past their prime and don’t represent the American people need to step down and stop causing so much damage to our country.
