The Deep State has met their arch-nemesis.
They have been torching the Constitution for decades.
But Mike Lee just took a brave stance against their agenda that could change everything.
The Fourth Amendment clearly states that U.S. citizens have a God-given right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
But it’s clear that the Deep State’s spy programs are a direct violation of the Constitution, ever since Executive Order 12333 was signed in 1981, giving the Intelligence Community the power to “incidentally” collect the records of Americans.
And that power was dramatically expanded in 2001 by the PATRIOT Act.
Then in 2013, their spy programs were exposed and the whole world found out just how far they had gone to target American citizens.
They’ve only doubled down on their assertions of power since then – engaging in activities such as pressuring social media companies to censor conservatives.
However, Utah Senator Mike Lee has had enough and is taking a bold stand against the Deep State’s nefarious activities.
According to Deseret News, “A law used by U.S. intelligence agencies to monitor the communications of American citizens should not be reauthorized without reform and additional oversight, Utah Sen. Mike Lee said at a hearing Tuesday.”
Lee had this to say: “We’ve got an opportunity this year to make necessary reforms and we must do it.”
Section 702 of the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) is up for reauthorization at the end of the year and Congress will need to vote to reapprove it, but Mike Lee refuses to do so unless it is dramatically changed.
The article continues, “Section 702 requires U.S. communications companies to provide the intelligence community with information it gathers about foreign targets, but has also been used to gather information on American citizens.”
“Lee listed recent examples of the FBI monitoring American citizens using information gathered under Section 702 – including 19,000 donors to an unnamed congressional campaign, Black Lives Matter protestors, participants at the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots, and a member of Congress.”
Clearly this is a program used by the government to target Americans from all political stripes – from Jan. 6th protestors to BLM members.
This is one thing the left and the right should be able to come together on – refusing to allow the government to spy on us.
Unfortunately, Joe Biden has shown himself to be an enemy of civil liberties, which means Congress will have to take it upon themselves to change this program.
