It seems Kamala Harris isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Many people thought she would fade away after losing the election.
But now she’s made one stunning announcement about a recount.
When Kamala Harris conceded the election to Donald Trump, most people reasonably assumed they weren’t going to hear much more from her.
While there were some states that had narrow margins, the election as a whole wasn’t particularly close and Trump came away as the clear winner.
But Harris has been sending messages out to her supporters about a potential recount and asking them for donations.
It’s unclear as to why, but Harris is adamantly insisting that every vote be counted.
According to USA Today, “A portion of donations made to the Harris Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee authorized by the Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state Democratic parties, will be directed towards a recount effort, according to its fundraising page.”
“The move comes after former president Donald Trump officially swept all seven battleground states and earned 312 electoral votes in the 2024 presidential race, winning control of the White House. In some states Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris by a narrow margin, including less than one percentage point in Wisconsin and less than two points in Michigan.”
There seems to be no explanation for why she is doing this.
“The fundraising page says that the ‘first $41,300/$15,000 from a person/multicandidate committee (‘PAC’) will be allocated to the DNC. The next $3,300/$5,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to Harris for President’s Recount Account,’” USA Today reports.
“It doesn’t include additional details on when the recount effort will take place and who will lead the effort.”
“Harris officially conceded the race to Trump in a speech she gave at Howard University the day after Election Day, saying that the nation must accept the election results.”
Generally candidates do not request a recount after they’ve conceded, although it sounds like her effort is directed at only a few states.
But with Trump winning states like Michigan and Pennsylvania by around two percentage points, it’s far too high a margin for a recount to make any difference.
