Kamala Harris has a long and sordid history with her treatment of religious people.
That has apparently continued into her presidential campaign.
And she insulted religious people with one announcement that will shock you.
Kamala Harris is aggressively pro-abortion, and that has been at the core of her long and ugly history with her treatment of religious people with pro-life views.
For example, when she found out that a judicial nominee, Brian Buescher, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization, she used that against him in a hearing.
Her reasoning for this is that the Knights of Columbus are pro-life, a position that she clearly believes is unacceptable.
This apparently means that Harris would not allow any practicing Catholic to become a member of the judiciary, as practicing Catholics are bound by their faith to hold a pro-life position.
Now, Harris is refusing to attend the Al Smith Dinner, a Catholic fundraiser that has been a longstanding tradition for nominees from both parties.
This tradition goes all the way back to 1960 when John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon both attended the event, and it continues all the way to the present.
One has to wonder whether her hostility towards faithful Catholics is at the root of her decision not to attend this historic event.
According to Breitbart, “Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly planning to skip the historic Al Smith fundraiser dinner, according to her campaign.”
“Officials from the Harris campaign reportedly told organizers of the event that Harris, the Democrat presidential nominee, would not be attending this year’s event, according to CNN. Harris will reportedly be campaigning in a battleground state ahead of the presidential election.”
There are other possible explanations for her decision to skip the event, which in the interests of charity must be considered.
For example, it’s possible that her staff feels it would not be the best to put her in an unscripted environment like this dinner.
However, given her history with the Knights of Columbus, it cannot be ignored that she has a track record of animosity towards the Catholic Church’s teachings.
The article continues, “Trump has previously attended the Al Smith dinner in 2020 and 2016. During the 2016 Al Smith dinner, Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was the Democrat’s presidential nominee at the time, shared the stage, where they roasted themselves and each other.”
“The tradition of the presidential candidates speaking and roasting each other began when former President John F. Kennedy and former President Richard Nixon spoke at the Al Smith dinner in 1960, according to Fox News.”
Hopefully Harris is making this decision for strategic reasons, and not because of any kind of religious animosity that she might hold.
And if she does still hold such animosity, hopefully she is able to let go of it and not be so hostile.
For the time being, however, people of religious faith should be aware of Kamala Harris’s track record, and her decision to skip the Al Smith Dinner should raise serious eyebrows.
