What Kamala Harris said on camera was disgusting.
One family is grieving an unthinkable tragedy.
And now scandal is erupting after Kamala Harris delivered a nasty insult.
Laken Riley was an innocent 22-year-old nursing student at the Augusta University College of Nursing who was just trying to go for a morning run when she was murdered by Jose Ibarra.
She was sadly discovered near the campus of the University of Georgia in the city of Athens, and there’s been significant national attention on this tragedy ever since.
One of the big things that’s gotten attention in the days since the tragedy has been the fact Ibarra is not in the country legally.
He’s from Venezuela and crossed the border in violation of U.S. immigration laws at some point as was confirmed in a CBS article.
“The suspect, 26-year-old Jose Ibarra, was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Sept. 8, 2022, after he unlawfully entered the U.S. near El Paso, Texas, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement.”
Now, the attention is turning to Kamala Harris, who made a comment on Meet the Press that the border is secure.
This is quite the bold statement to make and an insult to the people who are currently suffering from the illegal immigration crisis.
And now, as Laken Riley’s family grieves, controversy is surrounding Kamala Harris.
According to Newsweek, “Comments from Vice President Kamala Harris about border security resurfaced after the death of Georgia college student Laken Riley, prompting anger from conservatives online.”
“As news has emerged about the case and Ibarra’s background, several conservatives on social media brought up comments from Harris on September 11, 2022, only three days after the suspect’s reported crossing, in which she claimed that the southern border was secure.”
Harris said in the interview: “I think that there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made: pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship. The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed.”
Her comments are way off base, which is why she’s getting so much negative publicity.
“Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant, had been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another,” the article continued.
Nothing that can be done to Ibarra or the immigration system can undo what happened to Laken Riley now.
But hopefully, the federal government will finally realize the consequences of their immigration policies.
And perhaps Kamala Harris will realize that her statements on Meet the Press were not only factually wrong, but insulting to those who are suffering from this crisis.
