Americans were outraged to learn that China had sent a spy balloon to the United States.
But rather than stopping the balloon from entering the country, Joe Biden sat on his hands.
And now, even Democrats are calling for an investigation into Biden’s balloon scandal.
When word broke on February 2 that the Chinese had infiltrated American airspace with a spy balloon likely launched from the other side of the world, Americans were outraged.
By the time US authorities were able to detect the object, the balloon had already made its way over Montana.
And even though reports indicated the Chinese were likely using the balloon to spy on American military bases and missile silos across the Great Plains and Midwest, Biden allowed the balloon to continue making its way across the United States.
In fact, it wasn’t until the balloon had flown out over the Atlantic Ocean that the Air Force was finally given the green light to shoot it down.
Now, Biden is finding himself under fire from both sides of the aisle, as even Democrats are outraged over how he could have allowed this spy balloon to make it so far into our airspace before being detected.
“I’m demanding answers from the Biden Administration. I will be pulling people before my committee to get real answers on how this happened, and how we can prevent it from ever happening again,” said Democrat Senator Jon Tester in a statement slamming Biden’s lack of action.
“This provocation is completely unacceptable, and I am in close contact with Department of Defense and Intelligence officials. We are still waiting for real answers on how this happened and what steps the Administration took to protect our country, and I will hold everyone accountable until I get them,” Tester said.
Republicans also pointed out that the balloon had crossed into American territory days earlier and still the Biden administration waited until February 2 – after the balloon had already trekked its way over Alaska, parts of Canada, and Idaho – to inform the public of its existence.
“China’s brazen disregard for U.S. sovereignty is a destabilizing action that must be addressed, and President Biden cannot be silent,” tweeted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Biden’s weak response to China’s growing threat over the years has already garnered him criticism from other Republicans, including Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, both of whom are considered the top two candidates for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.
Both have slammed Biden’s inability to stand up to the Chinese Communist Party, and now – with Biden’s approval ratings already about as low as they can possibly go – the added “balloon scandal” could be yet another major obstacle for Biden’s own re-election plans.
