Joe Biden just went to an extreme that no one expected.
He’s intent on keeping the White House in Democrat hands by any means possible.
And his latest move against Trump goes beyond what anyone has ever done before.
Donald Trump was already facing 78 criminal charges in states around the country. But the Democrats brought down the hammer on him in Georgia.
This has never happened before in United States history. Charging a former President with a crime and seeking jail time for them is unprecedented.
The charges revolve around Trump’s efforts in 2020 to overturn the election and try to retake the presidency.
Specifically, many of them center around a call Trump put into Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia Secretary of State, where Trump asked him to “find” however many votes were needed to win the state.
Democrats are hoping they can disqualify Trump from the 2024 race after he wins the nomination. This will effectively allow Joe Biden a free pass to stay in the White House, as he would quite possibly be running against a candidate who is incarcerated.
Of course, this goes completely against the principles of democracy which say we are free to elect our own leaders. But that isn’t stopping Biden and his allies.
According to CBS News, “The felony charges filed Monday against former President Donald Trump in Georgia are unlike any of the other 78 charges he was already facing in three separate cases around the country. The grand jury in Fulton County charged Trump and 18 of his allies under a law more commonly known for its use against organized crime, but that has far broader applications — the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, better known as RICO.”
This is a very extreme maneuver by Democrats. They are essentially comparing Trump to a mob boss, since that’s who RICO was designed for.
The article continues, “The grand jury indictment, which lists 41 total counts, including 13 against Trump, follows a two-and-a-half-year investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ office, and alleges a criminal enterprise that prosecutors say had the goal of overturning the state’s 2020 election result.”
It turns out that in Georgia they have even more latitude to go after Trump in this way, as the article reports:
“Georgia’s RICO statute is considered to be more expansive in scope than the federal law from which it is derived. In Georgia, prosecutors are able to point to a range of organized or related attempts to engage in predicate acts or predicate crimes, which include everything from violent crimes such as murder or arson, to false statements and obstruction of justice.”
Democrats need to be very careful here. There is an old saying that those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Joe Biden’s family is currently under investigation for some potentially serious criminal activity.
If Democrats can go after Trump for what he did, Republicans can certainly turn around and do the same to Joe Biden. He might be better advised to leave this one alone.
