Joe Biden’s political star is falling.
With opinion polls showing him deeply unpopular with Americans, Biden still wants to run for re-election.
But now, Biden just got hit with news that could forever destroy his chances in the next election.
Joe Biden’s political standing has been stuck in the mud for years.
With an overwhelming majority of Americans saying they disapprove of his job in the Oval Office, one has to wonder why he is even bothering to run for a second term.
Biden’s support across almost all sectors of the public have collapsed in recent months, and his deep unpopularity will almost certainly make his re-election bid that much harder.
But that hasn’t stopped Biden from working to secure a second term.
But now, one shocking development in Biden’s approval rating could end up derailing any plans he has to win re-election.
The Washington Examiner reports, “President Joe Biden’s job approval rating has fallen to 38% in a new poll from the Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center — close to his lowest rating ever in that poll. Just last month, Biden’s rating was 45%, which was as high as it has been since his rating began a long slide a few months after he took office.”
With an approval rating below even 40%, Biden has almost no chance of winning re-election.
In fact, no president in modern political history has come even close to winning a second term with an approval rating that low.
For most presidents, they need to get their approval rating much closer to 50% to even have a shot at defeating their challenger.
And for Biden, he has consistently polled under 45% for most of the last two years.
What is driving Biden’s unpopularity?
The simple answer is the economy, and it isn’t hard to see why.
As the Washington Examiner writes, “In the month since Biden’s previous, higher rating, people have become deeply concerned about the safety of the banking system. When respondents were asked, ‘Generally speaking, would you say things in this country are headed in the right direction or the wrong direction?’ — the oldest question in the polling book — just 21% said the country is headed in the right direction, versus 78% who said wrong direction. The right direction number fell 7 points from just last month, and the wrong direction number rose 7 points.”
With a shocking 75% of Americans rating their country’s economy as poor, it isn’t hard to see why economic issues have emerged as the single greatest challenge to Joe Biden’s approval rating.
Making matters worse, nearly 80% of Americans say that the nation’s economic trajectory is currently on the wrong track.
This means that even Democrats are beginning to realize that Joe Biden’s handling of the economy has been a total disaster.
And when such a large majority of the American public all rate the state of the economy as poor and getting worse, Joe Biden’s path to a second term rapidly starts to vanish.
This is why Biden’s approval rating is so low, and it’s why Biden is currently favored to lose any potential re-election bid he launches.
