Biden’s administration is falling apart.
And the American people know he’s not the right man for the job.
Now one shocking poll shows a record number of Democrats are abandoning Biden.
Presidents almost always have strong support from their own party. That’s typically how they got into the White House in the first place.
But Joe Biden is different. He won because so many Democrats and Independents wanted Donald Trump gone, and he was simply the generic alternative on the ballot.
Now that he’s the president, though, he can’t be a “generic alternative” to Trump anymore. He actually has to govern.
And after a year and a half in office, his party wants someone different already.
According to a poll from USA Today and Ipsos, “Democratic voters are more eager for a change in the party and a new face for the 2024 race. In the poll, 44% of them say Biden ‘deserves reelection,’ while 56% say he shouldn’t run again.”
Aaron Shissler, 36, who is described in the article as a “left-leaning independent,” had this to say about Biden: “In some ways, I think he’s doing the best he can with the mess that Trump left behind. But in other ways, I just don’t think he does enough. I think he takes a lot of half-measures.”
This type of lukewarm support for a president from his own party is extremely rare. Barack Obama, for example, was always extremely popular on the left, even as he was hated by the right and gradually lost support among independents too.
Biden is going to have an extremely difficult time holding together his political coalition if he doesn’t even have a base of loyal followers like most presidents do.
The article continues, “Women are more pessimistic than men about Biden’s prospects, and younger voters are more pessimistic than older ones. Among Democratic voters under 35, 53% say he could win re-election.”
One of the big reasons why Democrats are so hesitant about Biden running for president again in 2024 is that he is already the oldest president ever by a long shot.
In fact, he will turn 80 years old not long after the 2022 elections, and he is already showing signs of decline.
Ronald Reagan, at the time that he served, was famously the oldest president of all time. He was heavily attacked for supposedly losing his mental faculties.
But Reagan only served until he was 72. Biden is almost 8 years older than that, and he still thinks that he’s running for re-election.
The idea of Joe Biden serving as president until he’s 86 years old is unthinkable for a lot of Americans.
And it turns out it’s not just Republicans and Independents who think that’s a bridge too far – it’s Democrats too.
Of course, the list of potential nominees to replace Biden is not one most Republicans will like. It includes names like Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and Pete Buttigieg.
But if Democrats have their way, Biden will be headed into retirement in 2024, and one of those people will take the reins of the party.
