2021 has not been kind to Joe Biden.
After one political setback after another, Biden is on track to have one of the worst presidencies in history.
And now, Democrats are panicking as Biden is about to suffer his greatest political defeat yet.
Joe Biden has had a horrible 2021.
After watching his approval rating collapse since the summer, overseeing one of the worst foreign policy disasters in American history with the botched withdraw from Afghanistan, and having much of his agenda stalled in Congress at the hands of two of his own Democrat Senators, Biden’s presidency is already off to a rocky start.
But for Biden, things are about to go from bad to worse.
With just weeks left in the first crucial election since last year’s contentious presidential race, the looming gubernatorial election in Virginia could end up ruining Biden’s career for good.
“Polls show a tight race between McAuliffe and Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin. A Monmouth University Poll survey released on Wednesday showed the race tied at 46 percent among registered Virginia voters. On top of that, Youngkin leads with independent voters, 48 percent to 39 percent. The poll also showed Republicans leading Democrats on enthusiasm, with 49 percent of Republican voters saying they are more enthusiastic than usual to vote in the election, compared to 26 percent of Democrats.” adds The Hill.
Virginia was not supposed to be this close for Democrats.
After carrying the state by 10 points last year, Democrats entered 2021 confident that they would sweep all three statewide offices and retain control over the state legislature, cementing their domination of a state that has rapidly swung from Republican to Democrat in just over a decade.
But now, Democrats are in full panic mode as poll after poll shows that Biden’s collapsing approval ratings are beginning to drag down Democrat nominee Terry McAuliffe with just days to go until the election.
In fact, the latest Monmouth Poll shows that the race in Virginia is now a dead heat, with RealClearPolitics showing the race is now within 2 points of being tied when examining an average of polls.
This is a complete disaster for Democrats, who routinely expected to be carrying by as much as 8 points this year.
And if Democrats do end up losing Virginia in November, it could signal the beginning of a nationwide red wave for the 2022 elections. A swing of over 10 points to the right in a state Biden won by 10 last year, would indicate that Democrats are on the verge of losing both chambers of Congress next year, and possibly the presidency itself in 2024.
“The closeness of this race suggests the suburban swing voter is moving back to Republicans fast,’’ said one Republican strategist with the Congressional Leadership Fund, a top GOP PAC that focuses on elections to the House of Representatives. “That is a warning sign for the many incumbent Democrats in swing suburban districts.’’
