Big Tech platforms have become the new free-speech battleground.
The left has been hard at work shutting down online debate.
But Jim Jordan released one report that made the deep state furious.
Elon Musk disrupted the establishment when he purchased Twitter for $44 billion and took the company private.
Musk wanted to restore free speech on the platform and exposed the massive collusion between Big Tech and the federal government by releasing the Twitter Files.
Now Jim Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee are publishing a report on the government’s abuses regarding online speech.
In a report titled, “The Weaponization of CISA: How a ‘Cybersecurity’ Agency Colluded with Big Tech and ‘disinformation’ Partners to Censor Americans,” the committee detailed disturbing levels of coordination to shut down dissent from the establishment narrative.
The 37-page report focused on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a new group inside the Department of Homeland Security working behind the scenes to censor Americans through direct coordination with Big Tech platforms, or through third-party intermediaries who engage in pressure campaigns.
The report stated that the “First Amendment recognizes that no person or entity has a monopoly on the truth, and that the ‘truth’ of today can quickly become the ‘misinformation’ of tomorrow. Labeling speech ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’ does not strip it of its First Amendment protection. As such, under the Constitution, the federal government is strictly prohibited from censoring Americans’ political speech. The government also may not use third parties to bypass the First Amendment and conduct censorship by proxy.”
But “censorship by proxy” is precisely what’s been happening.
And the COVID regime was a perfect example.
“Conspiracy theories” like the lab-leak hypothesis were banned from public discussion, even though the lab-leak theory was always the most plausible explanation and has become the most widely accepted position.
However, Dr. Anthony Fauci and other agents of the government leaned on Facebook to shut down the debate and any discussion that could create vaccine hesitancy.
Based on messages received via FOIA requests, Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg obliged and helped silence Americans.
The report continued, “Founded in 2018, CISA was originally intended to be an ancillary agency designed to protect ‘critical infrastructure’ and guard against cybersecurity threats. In the years since its creation, however, CISA metastasized into the nerve center of the federal government’s domestic surveillance and censorship operations on social media. By 2020, CISA routinely reported social media posts that allegedly spread ‘disinformation’ to social media platforms. By 2021, CISA had a formal ‘Mis-, Dis-, and Malinformation’ (MDM) team. In 2022 and 2023, in response to growing public and private criticism of CISA’s unconstitutional behavior, CISA attempted to camouflage its activities, duplicitously claiming it serves a purely ‘informational’ Role.”
Many government agencies often suffer mission creep like CISA; the original purview gets expanded into something that becomes censorious and intrusive.
Jordan and others are only scratching the surface of just how intricate the censorship regime is.
