Across the country Big Tech is on a rampage against conservative-leaning organizations.
And with Joe Biden now in the White House, there’s no signs of them slowing down.
Now, Facebook just declared war on this Second Amendment Group with one shocking move.
Throughout the 2020 election cycle, conservative political figures and commentators warned that the power of Big Tech, including online platforms like Facebook and Twitter, had grown too large.
Outside of the constraints conservatives usually advocate for when it comes to the power of government, these platforms have grown over the years to amass not only a tremendous amount of users, but also a large degree of political power as well.
And now, the political biases present in Facebook and Twitter have begun to show themselves to the general public, at a time when a presence on both social media sites are increasingly seen as necessities for anyone running for office or engaged in political life in America.
Case in point, the founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, once tweeted in 2018 an article declaring that “one side must win” in the ongoing political battle between conservatives and liberals within the United States.
While this seemingly benign tweet flew under the radar for many, it’s now clear that Dorsey has taken the article’s premise to heart, using his platform to banish conservative voices and silence large segments of the population who disagree with him and his views.
But Twitter isn’t the only platform now openly engaged in a campaign to drive conservatives and libertarians from the public square.
Facebook too has finally begun to push its thumbs down on the scale, squarely on the side of the Left.
And the silencing of a Virginia-based pro-Second Amendment group serves as the first major example of Facebook’s newfound desire to drive conservative thought off of its platform.
The Washington Free Beacon has the story, “A top Virginia gun-rights group was booted from Facebook without explanation on Tuesday, a move the tech giant confirmed but refused to explain. Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, told the Washington Free Beacon that the group’s page disappeared without explanation. The company said the decision to remove the page is final—but did not provide further details.”
What’s more, Facebook has indicated that the deletion was intentional, and that they will not be restoring the group’s Facebook page.
“This was correctly actioned and we will not be republishing [the page],” said Facebook spokeswoman Kristen Morea when asked about the deletion of the Virginia Citizens Defense League’ page.
The Virginia Citizen’s Defense League (VDCL) is a gun rights organization in Virginia with years of lobbying experience in the state legislature, working to defeat gun control bills and advance pro-gun legislation.
After Democrats took control of the state government following Virginia’s 2019 elections, VDCL successfully worked to block many aspects of the Democrats’ gun control agenda from passing the state legislature, using tools like the group’s Facebook page to mobilize activists and inform them of when key votes were about to happen.
“Facebook’s decision to pull the league without explanation may signal trouble for other mainstream gun-rights groups and ignite new scrutiny of the company’s opaque moderation practices. The company has come under fire before for its ad hoc approach to content moderation, with critics alleging that it plays politics and arbitrarily silences conservative voices,” adds the Free Beacon.
And with the abrupt silencing of VCDL’s page, the precedent has now been set for Facebook to delete other conservative organization’s pages in other states across the country, not just Virginia.
