Donald Trump is going to have to seriously change his plans.
One very powerful individual has decided to quit.
And now Trump is going to have to rethink everything.
Donald Trump was almost certainly prepared to have to deal with Justin Trudeau after his inauguration.
But now, under immense political pressure due to falling approval ratings in Canada, Trudeau has resigned as Prime Minister.
This means Trump will have to scramble to rework his strategy based on whomever the new Prime Minister will be.
According to Fox News, “Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday that he intends to resign as party leader and prime minister after pressure from within his own Liberal Party increasingly grew amid heightened criticisms over his handling of the economy and threats levied by President-elect Donald Trump. He said he will resign once the party selects a new leader.”
Conservatives in Canada, under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre, have appeared to be on their way to an easy victory in the next election.
However, Trudeau’s resignation throws a wrench in all of that and liberals are hoping it leads to a political comeback.
The article continues, “Trudeau, who led the nation for nearly a decade, has been grappling for months with significant drops in his approval ratings over mounting frustration relating to issues like the soaring cost of living and rising inflation.”
“Though there was no official path for his party to boot him from the top job, the now nearly-former prime minister faced either the threat of a Parliamentary vote of no confidence, or a lengthy fight to hold on to his position until the October 2025 elections – either option was expected to see a crushing end to Trudeau’s time in office.”
In all likelihood, conservatives will still emerge victorious in the next election, as voters will probably hold the entire Liberal Party – and not just Trudeau – responsible for their grievances.
But this resignation is sure to create chaos.
And if this does indeed lead to the Liberal Party in Canada making a comeback, that will be especially bad news for Trump, who is looking for foreign leaders who will be allies.
Trudeau’s resignation is perhaps the biggest global political news of the week and it is something Donald Trump will be paying close attention to.
