Eric Swalwell is making a complete fool of himself.
He thought he was going to be the next President.
But instead, he is losing his mind after Kevin McCarthy delivered some bad news to him.
In the last session of Congress, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats made a controversial decision, stripping two Republicans of their committee assignments.
Now, with Republicans controlling the House, Kevin McCarthy has responded by removing Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee, and Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.
This wasn’t merely an act of petty revenge. McCarthy had good reason to take these men off the committee. Swalwell had been caught having intercourse with a Chinese spy, while Schiff had lied repeatedly to the American people about classified information.
Clearly these are not people who should be anywhere near a committee as powerful as the Intelligence Committee.
After all, the Intelligence Committee is tasked with overseeing the most powerful and secretive spy agencies on the planet – the NSA, CIA, and FBI.
In the past, this committee has been stacked to the brim with political hacks who hate the Constitution and support illegal spying on American citizens. These hacks have refused to perform true oversight over the spy agencies they are tasked with keeping in line.
Swalwell and Schiff are two of the people who were complicit in that, and it is a benefit to the country that they are no longer on the committee.
But Swalwell, ever the politician, is now using this to draw attention to himself and lecture the American people.
Swalwell had this to say after being told he was removed from the committee: “The costs are the death threats that Miss Omar, myself, and Mr. Schiff keep getting because McCarthy continues to aim and project these smears against us.”
That’s right, Eric Swalwell is claiming that because he was removed from a committee, that shows that Kevin McCarthy is trying to literally murder him.
How insane can this man get?
In an article about this topic, Twitchy had this snarky retort to Swalwell’s hyperbolic comments: “Obviously Kevin McCarthy booting Swalwell, Schiff, and Omar from their respective committee positions was motivated purely by something sinister. What possible logical explanation could there be for not wanting someone like Eric Swalwell on the House Intelligence Committee?”
Every Speaker has the right to remove people from Congressional committees as they see fit. Clearly no Speaker should abuse that right. It sets a bad precedent for a Speaker to remove their political enemies from committees for no reason other than politics.
But there were reasons to kick Schiff and Swalwell off the committees, particularly Swalwell. He slept with a Chinese spy. If he weren’t in Congress he could never qualify for a secret clearance. He belongs nowhere near top-secret information.
Taking him off the Intelligence Committee is a good thing for America.
Eric Swalwell can keep flapping his arms and screaming about how Kevin McCarthy is trying to kill him, but fortunately it is all meaningless talk, now that he has been removed from his position of power.
