Big Tech has been one of the staunchest allies of the Left.
But now, they’re in a complete meltdown.
And it’s all because Elon Musk made one shocking move to defend free speech online.
It’s official, Elon Musk has bought Twitter for around $44 billion.
The move, which includes purchasing the social media site for $54.20/share, comes after years of challenges to Twitter’s moderation approach.
With over 98% of Twitter employees’ political campaign donations going to Democrats in the last election, it’s clear that the website had an overwhelmingly Left-wing bias.
Even worse however was the fact that Twitter routinely put its thumbs on the scale in favor of the Left, especially in light of its blatant attempts to silence political voices from the Right, including President Donald Trump himself.
Elon Musk had long been a critic of the way Twitter ran itself, openly commenting that Twitter was being unfair and biased in their approach to moderating political discussions online.
After the conservative-leaning news satire site The Babylon Bee was banned on Twitter, Musk himself tweeted that the banning wasn’t fair, and he shortly afterwards created a poll asking his followers if they thought Twitter was politically biased.
The results apparently prompted Musk to begin contemplating purchasing a stake in Twitter, which he ultimately did in March 2022, becoming the single largest shareholder of the company.
After negotiations to bring Musk onto Twitter’s Board of Directors fell through, Musk himself decided to ramp up his efforts to push for a more pro-free speech social media platform.
That ultimately prompted the billionaire to put forward a buyout proposal for the entire site, which almost fell through after Twitter’s Board of Directors attempted to invoke a “poison pill” option to prevent Musk’s takeover.
But after weeks of tense negotiations, Twitter ultimately revisited their decision and eventually accepted Musk’s offer, setting the stage for the site to go private in Musk’s hands.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a tweet where the deal was announced.
“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
The reaction from the Left was not nearly as optimistic.
Some threatened to leave the platform, while others did exactly that, including race-hustler Shaun King, who deleted his Twitter account after falsely accusing Musk of perpetuating “White Supremacy” through his act of purchasing the social media site.
The Left’s reaction to Musk purchasing Twitter makes complete sense in light of how the Silicon Valley social media giant operated in the past.
The fact is, the Left will no longer be able to censor those who they despise, and that is what has caused the mass meltdown since Musk and Twitter announced the buyout deal.
It remains to be seen what other political impacts the agreement will have going forward.
