It is clear that Donald Trump isn’t messing around this time.
He is intent on overhauling the federal government.
And this latest decision is going to send D.C. into a frenzy.
Donald Trump is making it very clear that his second term is going to be different than his first.
This time around, Trump isn’t hiring D.C. insiders who are skeptical of him and will try to resist his plans, this time he’s hiring close allies.
One of those people is Elon Musk, who famously bought Twitter and made it into a free speech platform called X and then went on to endorse Trump in the 2024 election.
Now, it appears Musk is going to become a key member of the Trump administration and is taking over a new government agency called “DOGE.”
This name is a play on Musk’s affinity for the cryptocurrency called “Dogecoin,” but also stands for the “Department Of Government Efficiency.”
This agency is apparently going to be responsible for making sure the government runs efficiently with as little waste as possible.
According to CNBC, “President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy will lead an efficiency group when his second term begins in January.”
“Trump didn’t specify where cuts will take place or when the department may be formed. Congress hasn’t created or funded such an office. He said the group’s ‘work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026.’”
It will be fascinating to watch how exactly this will unfold and whether Congress will fund an agency like this.
Musk is certainly qualified as he’s been an entrepreneur his whole life and runs multiple massive corporations.
The article continues, “Musk’s involvement in the envisioned group was previously promised by Trump and touted by the Tesla CEO, who spent an estimated $200 million backing the Republican nominee’s 2024 campaign, as a reason to put the former president back in the White House. Musk, who also runs defense contractor SpaceX, has reportedly been stationed at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida since election night.”
“Ramaswamy, who challenged Trump in the Republican primary, is co-founder of investment firm Strive Asset Management. He has opposed the widespread adoption of environmental, social and governance, or ESG, principles by companies.”
“Trump announced a number of other appointments Tuesday, including naming Fox News host Pete Hegseth as his pick for Defense secretary and John Ratcliffe as CIA director.”
Many of Trump’s picks for various positions have been controversial, including Matt Gaetz for Attorney General – which had not yet been made when the CNBC article was published.
But the selection of Musk to run this agency should not be controversial at all, at least among Republicans who ostensibly want a more efficient government.
This could actually turn out to be a great idea that will overhaul how the federal government does business, in a good way.
