The media said something about Donald Trump that was totally false.
But Trump knew the truth was on his side.
And he humiliated the media with this one invitation.
Back in 2018, after the Eagles had just won their first Super Bowl in franchise history, Donald Trump was looking forward to hosting them at the White House for the customary celebration.
But only a small group of players had agreed to attend.
When Trump got wind of this, he rescinded the invitation and canceled the event entirely, stoking a significant amount of controversy in the press at the time.
Now that the Eagles have won their second Super Bowl, the press jumped the gun and reported the team still had no plans to visit the White House because of Trump.
But it ended up being fake news and Trump himself delivered the final blow to the story by announcing he would be extending an invitation to the Eagles afterall.
According to Yahoo! Sports, “The door is ostensibly open for the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl. Unlike last time.”
“Speaking with reporters Tuesday, President Donald Trump confirmed the Eagles would be extended an invitation, praised their performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, then requested a staffer take care of the invitation.”
It’s worth keeping in mind that other than a handful of players and coaches, the Eagles are a completely different team now than they were in 2018.
The article continues, “The Eagles have undergone significant changes since that incident, with a new head coach in Nick Sirianni and only four players left over from the Super Bowl LII team: right tackle Lane Johnson, defensive end Brandon Graham, kicker Jake Elliott and long snapper Jake Lovato.”
“Owner Jeffrey Lurie remains, however. He declined to answer when asked if the team would be open to a White House visit before Super Bowl LIX, saying he wanted to win first. His team most certainly did that with a 40-22 pounding of the Chiefs, and it was later reported the Eagles were indeed open to making the trip.”
The owner might not like the man in the White House, but it’s not up to him to deprive his players of their celebration just because of his personal political views.
