Something big is brewing at the Supreme Court.
Donald Trump has demanded that they take an unprecedented action.
And no one knows exactly what the Supreme Court is about to do.
Donald Trump is about to receive his sentence in the state of New York related to the convictions that were handed down in the Stormy Daniels case a few months ago.
While the judge has said that Trump is not going to jail, it is not yet known exactly what type of sentence is going to be given to him.
But Trump is trying to block it all from taking place, and he is appealing to the Supreme Court to make it happen.
This is unprecedented for the Supreme Court, as a president-elect has never been in this position.
There is no playbook for exactly how they are supposed to handle a situation like this with an incoming president.
No matter what they choose to do, there is going to be major controversy surrounding it.
And something very big is about to happen at the Supreme Court one way or another, no matter which route they ultimately choose.
According to ABC News, “President-elect Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent Friday’s sentencing in his New York criminal hush money case.”
“In a filing Wednesday morning, defense lawyers argued that sentencing Trump — who has attempted to halt the case based on a claim of presidential immunity — would damage ‘the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government.’”
Trump is saying that an incoming president should not receive a sentence of any kind, for anything, because of the importance of the office.
But the judge is intent on plowing ahead regardless and handing down a sentence, albeit not one that will include prison time.
The article continues, “The Supreme Court asked for a response from prosecutors in New York by Thursday at 10 a.m. ET.”
“Trump’s lawyers warned New York’s Court of Appeals that continuing with the sentencing could lead to ‘grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government,’ in a filing that largely echoed Trump’s three other attempts this week to have the case delayed.”
“The request will reviewed by a single judge who has the authority to stay the case, and no oral argument is expected. Trump’s previous attempts to sway the New York Court of Appeals — such as his challenges to the gag orders in his criminal and civil cases — have been unsuccessful.”
The Supreme Court will be heavily criticized by the left if they decide to block the sentencing of Trump in this case, as the left views them as a conservative institution.
However, Trump supporters will be very upset if the conservative members of the Court allow this to go forward and Trump ends up being sentenced.
No matter what happens, someone is going to be very upset, and there will be no shortage of drama at the Supreme Court.
