Disney made a decision that they thought would appease the social justice mob.
But instead, they are suffering for it greatly.
And now, it is becoming clearer and clearer that they made a catastrophic decision.
Florida, where Disney’s flagship theme park is located, passed a law saying that public school teachers couldn’t teach about sexual identity to little children who are 3rd grade or younger.
This infuriated the Left, who want to use public schools to make little kids into Left-wing social justice activists.
And under pressure from the Left, Disney made a decision. They thought that getting on the bad side of Left-wing activists would be more harmful to them than getting on the bad side of normal people.
So they joined the mob. They harshly criticized Gov. DeSantis’s bill, and they promised to use their movies and theme park to promote alternative sexual identities, like transgenderism and “pansexuality,” to young children.
How did it pay off for them?
Well, according to Market Watch, “Shares of Walt Disney Co. DIS slipped 2.25% to $132.57 Wednesday.”
“Walt Disney closed $57.83 below its 52-week high ($190,40), which the company reached on April 14th [of last year].”
And now, Disney is getting shredded for their decision.
The Wall Street Journal published an op-Ed entitled, “Disney Decides to Go for Woke.” In it, they sarcastically stated, “If executives of the Walt Disney Co. are serious about tackling the endemic poison of cisgendered-white-patriarchal ideology in our wicked society, it’s high time they revisited their enormous back-catalog of works that have promoted this pernicious propaganda for too long.”
Kurt Schlichter of Town Hall said that Disney has to be destroyed.
“The Republicans must figuratively post Mickey’s soon-to-be public domain head on a pike. This is what happens to corporations that cross us.”
“And cross us Disney did. It did not have to stick Donald’s beak into Florida’s fight to keep grooming perverts from messing with first graders’ heads. But stick it did, mewling and howling about the unfairness of Ron DeSantis taking the bullseye off our little ones. It promised to use its power to change the law, not just by advocacy but with contributions and veiled threats to pack up and go.”
Schlichter also praised Ron DeSantis for holding strong through all of this turmoil.
“DeSantis understands the use of power. He’s got it. Disney thought it did. But what Disney really has is a vast array of special breaks that helped make it the hulking monopolistic monstrosity that it is today.”
“DeSantis should strip Disney of its special bequests in Florida. It’s not like Disney can move its city elsewhere. Congress should laugh Disney’s lobbyists out of the Capitol when they come begging for a new copyright dispensation. And we should not be shy about letting Disney know why.”
“You screwed with us. Now you have to pay.”
It remains to be seen whether Disney’s financial downturn will be sustainable.
But if conservatives continue to hold strong, and don’t lose focus, then surely it will be.
