CNN was already struggling with record ratings lows.
But now, the network is reeling from one incredible self-inflicted blow.
And it’s all because CNN hired one Hitler apologist.
2021 has been a rough year for CNN.
Ever since Donald Trump left the White House in January, the network’s ratings have cratered to a level never-before-seen, as CNN had placed all their emphasis on bashing the President for the last four years.
This scorched earth strategy against Trump however has started to come back to haunt CNN now that Trump is gone.
Within weeks of his departure, the network experienced one of the largest drop-offs in viewership of any news network in the country, rivaling a similar decline in circulation for left-wing newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times.
This has created numerous problems for CNN, as the network struggles to come up with anything to bring in viewers in the wake of Biden’s inauguration and the departure of President Trump from the public media-driven spotlight.
Yet a declining audience would be the least of CNN’s troubles after this one toxic reporter’s tweets revealed a disturbing support for Nazism.
And that’s because earlier this month, it was revealed that CNN had hired a Hitler apologist who had defended the Holocaust.
The Hill reports, “CNN has fired a freelancer for a tweet that stated “The world today needs a Hitler,” the company said in a statement Sunday. Adeel Raja posted the tweet just before 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the Washington Examiner, though the tweet has since been deleted.”
Rather than recant his support for the Nazi dictator who had orchestrated the largest genocide in human history however, Raja took to Twitter to use his recent firing to launch another round of antisemitic attacks on Jews.
“Glad a single tweet contributed to the #Palestine cause and brought it to limelight with me loosing my job and the West’s claim of Freedom of expression and human rights!” Raja tweeted, sharing multiple news stories covering his recent hiring and praise for Hitler.
In the days before CNN had fired him, Raja had also described Israel of being a terrorist state in another tweet, and accused the United States of “creating terrorists and standing with them!”
Defending Hitler was nothing new for Raja however. In 2014, he had also tweeted that he was supporting Germany in the World Cup that year because “Hitler was a German, and he did good with those jews!”
After firing Raja, CNN put out the following statement, “As a freelancer, his reporting contributed to some news gathering efforts from Islamabad. However, in light of these abhorrent statements, he will not be working with CNN again in any capacity.”
“According to a search of CNN’s website, Raja has contributed to CNN since at least 2014, the Examiner reported. CNN did not immediately answer questions about whether it was aware of Raja’s earlier pro-Hitler tweet,” adds The Hill.
