Joe Biden has declared war on the Supreme Court.
Outraged that President Trump got to appoint three new justices, the Democrat is working to overturn Trump’s legacy.
And now, Biden’s court-packing scheme just took a turn for the worst.
When Joe Biden took office, one of his top priorities was undoing the “damage” that President Trump had caused during his four years in office.
And for most Democrats, there was no greater sign of that than the three new Supreme Court justices that Trump managed to appoint in just one term.
Trump appointees now make up a third of the bench on the nation’s highest court, and are poised to reshape the court in a more conservative direction for years to come.
That’s why Democrats have been working around the clock since January to pass legislation to “expand” the number of Supreme Court seats and pack them with left wing liberal activist judges.
So far, Biden has stayed quiet about the left’s plans to pack the court.
RealClearPolitics reports, “Since the early days of his presidential campaign last year, Joe Biden has viewed progressives’ push to expand the number of Supreme Court justices as an annoying distraction that would cost him crucial support among the large swath of moderates and independents while only satisfying the far-left voters who were going to back him in the general election anyway, regardless of his court-packing position.”
“Instead of taking a position on expanding the number of Supreme Court judges, Biden promised, if elected, to convene a commission to study several different reforms to the high court, including one that would expand the number of seats from nine to 13 because, he said, the current system is ‘out of whack.’” adds RealClearPolitics.
But now, he’s revealing his hand in a big way.
“In announcing the commission a week ago, Biden gave himself an extra six months to let the best constitutional scholars and other legal luminaries on the left, as well as a smattering of those on the right, hash out the issue.” reports RealClearPolitics.
The Supreme Court “commission” is the first step on the Democrats’ path to packing the court, and once the commission releases its report in six months, Biden will then have an opening to push the issue at last.
The only problem that remains in Biden’s way is hesitation from a handful of Democrat members of Congress, as well as the overwhelming opposition from the American people, who have revealed in opinion poll after opinion poll that they reject Democrats’ plans to pack the court with as many as four new liberal judges.
But with Democrats at least nominally in control of Congress for the next two years, many in the party believe its “now or never” when it comes to ushering in a key aspect of their agenda.
And even if the party faces a backlash in 2022 from packing the court, some Democrats believe it would be worth it in the end.
But regardless of the political consequences of the move, Biden’s first step towards reshaping the court in a more left-wing direction has just begun.
