Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is panicking like never before.
Her party just suffered one critical defeat.
And now, AOC is turning her attacks on fellow Democrats as the Left points blame for one massive disaster in New York.
Democrats in New York are panicking.
The party suffered devastating losses in the 2022 midterms.
And while the Red Wave failed to overcome the rest of the country by similar margins, it’s clear that Democrats suffered defeats in one of the largest Blue States in America that suggest something seriously wrong is happening on the Left.
Now, Democrats are pointing blame at one another as the party comes to grip with the fact that New York is not nearly as liberal as many once thought.
And it was in this “deep blue” state that Democrats suffered some of their worst losses of the entire 2022 midterm cycle.
Despite the state’s notorious political history for electing Democrats up and down the ballot, Republicans managed to flip an astonishing four congressional seats across the state, including one in the heart of New York City itself.
In fact, the GOP’s performance in New York State is likely what will allow the party to take control over the House of Representatives.
And among those defeated Democrats included the top-ranking Democrat Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, who served as Nancy Pelosi’s right hand man.
Maloney was the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the primary political arm of the House Democratic Caucus in Congress.
This means that Maloney was the one in charge of overseeing all Democrat Congressional campaigns across the country.
And yet despite being the one whose job it was to save the House Democrat majority, Maloney could not save his own political career, with Maloney losing re-election to a relatively unknown Republican challenger in a stunning upset.
Now, New York Democrats are in full-panic mode as the party comes to terms with a string of humiliating defeats across the board.
“The Democratic debacle has prompted disbelief among party faithful that New York state, a heartland where they outnumber registered Republicans two to one, was the place where they ended up being so vulnerable,” adds the Financial Times.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Bronx representative who is a star of Democrats’ progressive wing, blamed Cuomo, saying the party was still wedded to a campaign machine constructed by the former three-term governor that favored lobbyists and big donors over the grassroots.”
For her part, AOC blamed disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as state Democratic Party operatives who failed to stem the tide of the Red Wave.
“Cuomo may be gone, but his entire infrastructure, much of his infrastructure and much of the political machinery that he put in place is still there. And this is a machinery that is disorganized, it is sycophantic,” AOC said in a recent interview. “If Democrats do not hang on to the House, I think that responsibility falls squarely in New York state.”
Cracks are finally beginning to form in the Democrats’ New York Blue Wall.
The only question now is whether or not Republicans can exploit these weaknesses and begin to turn America’s second largest Blue State Red at last.
