Democrats are in an uproar as AOC went off the reservation.
She urged her followers to vote against Joe Biden.
Now Biden is on his way to defeat as AOC’s left-wing followers refuse to support him.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York City has always been a loose cannon. She is so far to the left of the mainstream that she winds up even attacking her fellow Democrats.
This is a problem for Joe Biden, who needs the votes of her many fans, but also risks alienating most mainstream voters if he signs on to Ocasio-Cortez’s full political agenda.
Ocasio-Cortez is furious at Biden for the fact that he has – sort of – taken Israel’s side in the war rather than siding with Hamas after the October 7th terrorist attacks.
She has tried to push Biden even further to the left on this issue than he has already gone, but now she has thrown in the towel and is simply urging her many fans to vote against him in the primary.
And she is creating a major political crisis for Joe Biden, one that could cost him the 2024 election.
According to the New York Post, “Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is looking at the bright side of hundreds of thousands of progressives opting not to vote for President Biden in Democratic primaries due to his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.”
Here is what she had to say about the people voting against Biden: “We need to acknowledge, actually, the upside of the ‘uncommitted’ movement, which is that these are folks that easily could have given way to cynicism and walked away.”
Ocasio-Cortez clearly knows that her statement that there is an “upside” to people voting against Biden will be taken by her fans as encouragement to do the same.
Biden himself surely does not think there is an upside to people voting against him, in the primary or otherwise.
The article continues, “Biden, 81, was rocked Feb. 27 when more than 100,000 Michiganders voted ‘uncommitted’ in the Democratic primary to protest his support of Israel in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack that killed an estimated 1,200 people.
“That trend has continued in other battleground states such as Minnesota, where nearly 46,000 — 19% of the primary electorate — voted ‘uncommitted,’ and Wisconsin, where more than 48,000 marked their ballot as ‘uninstructed.’”
“Biden has seemingly recalibrated his approach to Israel over recent weeks, chiding in early February that its war efforts have been ‘over the top.’”
“Still, the administration last month agreed to carry out a previously planned weapon transfer featuring billions of dollars worth of bombs and fighter jets.”
It’s clear that Biden’s approach, which has basically been to try to appease everybody, has not made him any friends in Ocasio-Cortez’s pro-Palestinian camp.
Unfortunately for Biden, that group of young and radical voters makes up a big and important slice of the Democrat electorate.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez carries a huge amount of sway with those voters, and it seems many of them are listening to her words about voting against Biden.
