There could be a government attack on Elon Musk very soon.
People are looking to do whatever they can to take him down.
And everyone should be aware of just how serious this threat is.
There are powerful people who are very threatened by Elon Musk.
In Europe, in particular, there are a number of leaders who want the force of government to stop Musk from influencing politics in their countries.
The threats against him are getting more serious and there’s an increasing risk that governments will act against him.
This would be an outrageous abuse of power, as Musk is simply exercising his free speech.
But it is worth remembering that most European countries don’t have constitutional guarantees of free speech like America.
According to The Guardian, “The EU executive has been too slow in enforcing a major law intended to ensure good behaviour of social media companies, MEPs have said, amid growing concern about the aggressive forays of Elon Musk into European politics.”
“Pressure on the European Commission to act is growing as Musk, the X owner and world’s richest man, prepares to host a livestream conversation on the platform on Thursday with the leader of the far-right Alternative for Deutschland, Alice Weidel.”
In the United States, hosting a livestream with a political figure is obviously constitutionally protected under the First Amendment.
Using legal means against it would be nearly impossible.
However, in a place like Germany, there is no First Amendment and Musk has far less protections for free speech.
The article continues, “Damian Boeselager, an MEP, co-founder of the pan-European Volt party and candidate for the Bundestag in the German election, has written to the Commission urging it to examine Musk’s ‘interference’ in European elections.”
“The MEP wants the Commission to investigate whether X’s apparent promotion of Musk’s tweets is legal under the EU’s Digital Services Act, which came into force in 2022.”
“Speaking to the Guardian, Boeselager said the system used to amplify Musk’s tweets was ‘probably illegal under the DSA,’ because he believes it fails to meet the law’s transparency requirements.”
It’s impossible to know whether the explicit goal here is to put Musk in jail, but it’s undeniable that this will have a chilling effect on free speech.
People in these countries who want to speak their mind on political issues will be scared off by the possibility that they too could be hunted down by the government.
Elon Musk needs to do everything he can to fight these attacks on him, otherwise censorship will win and become the norm.
