This masterstroke by Donald Trump will change things in a big way.
He’s already acting as president before he even takes office.
And Joe Biden will be shell shocked by this brilliant move Trump made.
One of the areas Donald Trump was the most successful in his first term was foreign policy.
He wasn’t afraid to use aggressive negotiation tactics often necessary in the foreign policy arena.
And while he isn’t president yet, Trump is already making moves that will fundamentally change our relationships with other countries.
Justin Trudeau – who is a very liberal leader and not a natural ally of Trump at all – recently sat down with Trump for dinner to work out some difficult issues.
According to Axios, “Canadian officials are stepping up border security ‘in a visible and muscular way’ following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s meeting with President-elect Trump, a top Liberal government minister who attended the talks said Sunday.”
“Trump said on Truth Social Saturday that Trudeau ‘has made a commitment to work with us to end’ the drug-smuggling problem.”
Even if Trudeau wasn’t thrilled about making this concession to Trump, the fact he’s willing to work with him is a huge victory.
If Trump is getting cooperation from other nations in his effort to stop drugs from flowing into America, he will have a much better chance of success.
“Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on Canada and other countries over his concerns about the number of migrants and drugs coming into the U.S.,” Axios reported.
“Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Sunday they spoke with Trump and Commerce Secretary nominee Howard Lutnick ‘about tariffs and what they would mean to the economy’ during the meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.”
“LeBlanc told CBC that Canadian officials emphasized during the meeting existing border security cooperation and that they believe the border is secure, though they did raise concerns about gun smuggling from the U.S.”
It seems tariffs are what brought Canada to the table, and although they think the border is already secure, they’re apparently willing to step up security even more.
The problem isn’t immigration.
Many immigrants contribute valuable things to the United States.
But it has to be done in a controlled way.
Having a wide-open border with no efficient system to vet who’s coming in – and what they’re bringing with them – is a recipe for disaster.
If this meeting between Trudeau and Trump is the first step towards an effective immigration system that allows good people in and keeps bad ones out, everyone will benefit.
