Joe Biden said he’s pulling the troops out of Afghanistan, but was he lying?
There have been signs since early on that he might be.
And now that question has been answered – Joe Biden is keeping America in Afghanistan.
America’s Military-Industrial Complex has figured out an end-run around the Constitution. Instead of referring to America’s wars as “wars,” they use euphemisms like “police action,” or they refer to combat troops as “contractors.”
After Joe Biden announced that America’s troops were being pulled out of Afghanistan, most people took him at his word.
But now America’s most powerful defense contractors are advertising positions on the ground in Afghanistan to “fight terrorism.”
In other words, the War in Afghanistan is continuing on. Joe Biden just isn’t going to call it a “war” anymore because he knows the American people are sick of Endless Wars.
William M. Arkin, a Newsweek writer, discovered 59 defense and intelligence contractors who are still advertising counter-terrorism positions in Afghanistan.
He tweeted out the list, which includes notable names such as Raytheon, BAE Systems, and General Dynamics, as well as a whole host of other contracting firms both small and large.
Many of these firms, of course, hold enormous sway within the U.S. government, and particularly within the Biden administration.
They make millions of dollars worth of political donations every year, and the biggest recipient of defense contractor political money in 2020 was none other than Joe Biden himself.
Biden has also drawn enormous support from ex-Republican warmongers, such as Bill Kristol, Jennifer Rubin, Max Boot, and Cindy McCain. They know that their interests are best served by his administration.
So, it’s no surprise that Joe Biden is giving them political favors and continuing the war, no matter what he’s telling the public.
The Military-Industrial Complex is one of the most powerful forces in Washington, D.C. and also one of the least accountable to the general public.
There’s an old saying that “no matter who you elect, you get John McCain,” and that rings truer than ever.
In fact, Donald Trump was the first President in decades to take on the Military-Industrial Complex in any meaningful way. That’s why he negotiated to have every single troop out of Afghanistan by May of 2021.
That’s why Biden got so much campaign cash from their lobbyists.
Biden will probably never pull the troops out of Afghanistan. What could change things is if a Republican gets elected in 2024.
And who that Republican is matters – a lot.
Some Republicans are still stuck in the Bush-Cheney era – they are diehard warmongers who want to drop bombs on every country, all the time. John McCain would be proud.
Tom Cotton, Mike Pompeo, and Nikki Haley are cut from this cloth.
Other Republicans have signaled support for Trump’s America First philosophy, and an opposition to the Endless Wars.
This group includes people like Rand Paul, Ron DeSantis, and Josh Hawley.
If Biden won’t get American troops out of harms way, it may be up to conservative voters to put a Republican in office who will. And it will have to be the right Republican, not the wrong one.
