Joe Biden’s new ATF Director doesn’t think so.
And now he’s doubling down on his hot take that the infamous Waco massacre was justified.
David Chipman is Joe Biden’s nominee to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, better known as the ATF.
As such, his job in the agency would be to act as a nanny state over things that are simply personal choices, such as owning a gun or smoking cigarettes.
Of course, sometimes that nanny state turns into something much darker, which is what happened with the 1993 Waco massacre.
A religious group known as the Branch Davidians was stockpiling guns in Waco, Texas. They were an odd group with quirky beliefs, but they had not committed any acts of violence or even threatened any.
The ATF decided that since guns are bad, they’d initiate a siege of the compound along with the FBI.
Eventually, they got tired of the siege and decided to just burn the compound down with everybody inside, men, women, and children alike. 82 people were killed.
David Chipman worked on this case at the ATF leading up to the massacre, and he’s still enthusiastic about what happened to this day. In fact, on a Reddit thread in 2019, Chipman bizarrely tried to defend the massacre by saying that the Branch Davidians shot down a helicopter, which did not happen.
Of course, Joe Biden looked at that track record and saw a guy who truly believes in the mission of the ATF. He was so impressed he decided to make him the Director.
The fact that Biden feels that way is not particularly surprising. After all, the Waco massacre happened on the watch of Bill Clinton and his liberal AG Janet Reno. Democrats seem to have a soft spot in their hearts for gun grabs and restricting people’s personal freedoms.
What remains to be seen is what steps Chipman, if confirmed, will take to restrict people’s Second Amendment rights.
Already, President Biden has announced a series of unconstitutional executive orders cracking down on gun ownership, and there are even more restrictive bills in the pipeline.
Chipman’s ATF would be one of the primary agencies responsible for enforcing those laws, and as he’s shown in the past with his defense of the Waco massacre, he doesn’t think twice about taking the most extreme and brutal measures possible to take people’s guns away.
Conservatives say that this threat makes it even more important to stop the bills that Biden is attempting to pass through Congress.
The co-chairs of the Second Amendment Caucus both spoke up on Twitter.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted, “The Second Amendment is being trampled, and I won’t stand for it.”
And Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) tweeted #EndTheAFT – a hashtag meant to signal his support for abolishing the agency, and also to poke fun at Biden for forgetting the name of the agency at his press conference.
David Chipman’s nomination has Second Amendment supporters everywhere worried, and the only way to stop another Waco may be to block the gun control bills Biden is pushing through Congress.
