Democrats are on the verge of suffering one of the worst political defeats in a lifetime.
And it’s all thanks to one deep blue state they never imagined losing.
And now, Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are pouring money into one race they can’t afford to lose.
Joe Biden won California in a landslide in 2020, but now it appears that Democrats are on the verge of losing the governor’s office in what has routinely been regarded as one of the largest liberal bastions in America.
That’s because the recall effort against Democrat incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom is picking up steam, and Democrats now realize there’s a real danger they could lose this special election in November.
If they do, it will mark the first Republican statewide victory in California since 2006, and derail what has been nearly two decades of uninterrupted liberal rule over America’s largest state.
The situation in California is downright terrible. With spiking rates of violence, including homicides, a homeless and drug epidemic sweeping most of the major liberal cities like San Francisco, and skyrocketing housing and gasoline prices across the state, California is rapidly falling to pieces after years of Democrat dominance over the legislature and governor’s mansion.
The situation has gotten so bad in fact that California is now bleeding people, as residents flee to cheaper and freer states like Nevada, Arizona, and Texas.
This has led to California losing an electoral vote thanks to the 2020 census, marking the first time in history that the Golden State has shrunk in size relative to the rest of the country.
But now, these left-wing policies are now about to trigger a political backlash in addition to the long-lingering economic and social backlash that has been plaguing the state for years.
The Times of San Diego reports, “Gov. Gavin Newsom may be fighting for his political life amid a fourth wave of COVID, a drought without modern precedent, another horrific fire season, a spiking murder rate and an increasingly credible-seeming recall. But at least he has a lot of really rich political allies.”
“At last count, the main committee tasked with defending the governor against the Sept. 14 recall has raised some $39 million. Another allied committee and Newsom’s own 2022 campaign account, which state law allows him to draw upon this year, add another $4 million to that war chest.”
This is a tremendous amount of money to be spending in a state that, until recently, was widely considered a safe blue state that Democrats would routinely win by landslide margins.
What’s more, this is money that Democrats can’t spend in the 2022 midterm elections as they prepare to defend control of both chambers of Congress.
“A new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll found pro- and anti-recall sentiment in a virtual dead heat among likely voters. That could provide Newsom’s allies with fresh incentive to pony up — and his campaign more reason to solicit money for the campaign ahead, especially to increase awareness and enthusiasm among Democrats,” adds the Times of San Diego.
