John Fetterman made a terrible decision that could cost him everything.
He took money from a shady figure he never should have associated with.
Now Fetterman is finding himself in the middle of a major scandal.
John Fetterman should have known better than to associate himself with Bob Menendez.
Menendez has been famously corrupt for years and has only managed to escape prison time because of his extensive political connections.
But Fetterman isn’t exactly known for his outstanding judgment, and when he ran for Senate in 2022, he accepted a $5,000 donation from Menendez’s PAC.
And now that Menendez has been caught in the worst bribery scandal of his career, this is yet another embarrassment for Fetterman as his popularity in Pennsylvania plummets.
CNBC reported that Fetterman will be returning the donations:
“Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., will return $5,000 in contributions from a political action committee tied to Sen. Bob Menendez ‘in envelopes stuffed with $100 bills’ because of the New Jersey Democrat’s indictment on bribery charges, Fetterman’s spokesman said.”
“Fetterman’s campaign received the donation from Menendez’s leadership PAC during the 2022 election cycle, according to the nonpartisan site OpenSecrets.”
Returning the donations in “envelopes stuffed with $100 bills” is a cute piece of political theater to make a point about Menendez’s charges, but drawing attention to his shady connections to Menendez is probably the last thing Fetterman should be doing.
After all, the Menendez scandal is casting Democrats everywhere in a bad light. And Fetterman is the only one actively promoting the fact he received donations from Menendez.
The article continues, “Fetterman was the first Democratic senator to call on Menendez to resign after he and his wife, Nadine Menendez, were charged with three bribery-related counts in federal court in New York.”
“On Monday, two other Democrats, Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Peter Welch of Vermont, also called for Menendez to step down.”
Voters have to be unimpressed with the cast of characters in the Democratic caucus.
Between Fetterman, who is unqualified for the job and refuses to even wear a suit and tie on the Seante floor, to Menendez who may soon be in jail for bribery, the Republicans might have better optics simply by default.
Chuck Schumer is almost certainly pulling his hair out having to deal with this nonsense from members of his caucus.
And John Fetterman has once again brought bad publicity to the emocrats by associating himself with the shadiest man in the U.S. Senate.
