CPAC is the largest annual gathering of conservatives in the country.
This year, Donald Trump addressed the crowd and dropped a major hint about his plans for the future.
And now, Trump’s latest announcement could shake up the 2024 race for good.
While the 2022 midterms are already in full swing, all eyes are also starting to turn towards the 2024 presidential election.
With Joe Biden’s approval rating at rock-bottom levels, and with overwhelming majorities of Americans disapproving of his handling of everything from the economy to COVID to the border crisis to the war in Ukraine, it is clear that Biden is well on his way to losing in a landslide in 2024.
What’s more, Democrats are almost certainly going to lose control of both chambers of Congress in 2022, with recent generic ballot polls for Congress showing the GOP holds a commanding lead in the public eye.
All of this suggests that whoever the Republicans nominate in 2024 will be in a strong position to win the next election, and possibly have control of both chambers of Congress as well to help them get much of their agenda passed in the first two years of their term in office.
So, it’s no surprise that so many Republicans are seriously considering throwing their hat in the ring and running in the next election.
And Donald Trump is certainly one of them.
Speaking at CPAC this year, Trump said “The socialists, globalists, Marxists, and communists who are attacking our civilization have no idea of the sleeping giant they have awoken. We are a sleeping giant. They cannot even begin to imagine the brave and righteous spirit they’ve unleashed in men and women, like all of you here today, and this is some crowd — we broke the record again. We broke the record again.”
“They are going to find out the hard way starting on November 8th, and then again even more so on November 2024, they will find out like never before,” Trump said to applause. “We did it twice, and we will do it again. We are going to be doing it again, a third time.”
This news comes after over a year of speculation regarding Trump’s intentions for 2024.
And now, the former President has all but confirmed suspicions that he is going to run again, as he tries to pull off a feat only accomplished once before in history when Grover Cleveland lost re-election in 1888, only to return to the White House for a second term four years later in 1892.
If Trump seriously does throw his hat into the ring, there’s a good chance he will win the nomination as well, as the latest CPAC poll shows that a solid majority of Republicans still support the former President.
“Trump, who’s repeatedly flirted with making another presidential run in 2024 to try and return to the White House, captured 59% of ballots cast in the anonymous online straw poll, according to results announced by CPAC on Sunday afternoon,” adds Fox News.
