Democrats just got hit by some news that they did not see coming.
And it was delivered courtesy of Ron DeSantis.
Now the Democrats are in big trouble after DeSantis threw a giant curveball into their plans.
For many years, Florida was the ultimate swing state. It became famous for that during the 2000 presidential election, when George W. Bush beat Al Gore by less than 1,000 votes.
Florida has been represented by Republicans like Marco Rubio, and Democrats like Bill Nelson, up until very recently.
But now Florida has turned into one of the most Republican states in America. What changed? The answer is very simple: Gov. Ron DeSantis turned Democrat voters into Republican voters.
He didn’t do that by being a squishy moderate or a RINO in sheep’s clothing. He did that by vocally opposing the COVID mandates of the Fauci mob.
You see, most people, even those who vote Democrat, want to live their lives. They want to run their businesses, see their families, and go out to eat at restaurants.
Politics isn’t the dominant force in most people’s lives. But during COVID, politics became extremely personal as politicians forced people to remain in their homes against their will.
Ron DeSantis refused to do that. He kept Florida open and free. And that was enough to convince a sizable chunk of Democrat voters to switch sides and vote for him.
According to a report from Fox News, “Lifelong Democrats in Florida are rejecting their party’s woke politics and supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis instead, according to one report from Bari Weiss’ new media outlet, The Free Press (FP).”
“‘DeSantis Democrats’ described various reasons, from rising inflation and COVID lockdowns to their party’s intolerance for different viewpoints and embrace of identity politics, as reasons for voting for the Republican in their state’s November red wave.”
COVID was a major influence in these voters’ decision to abandon the Left and support DeSantis. But it wasn’t the only thing.
They felt alienated by the wokeness of the Democratic Party and the radical Left-wing policies.
“You have to have a big tent that’s actually diverse, and you don’t do that by calling people with different viewpoints evil,” is what one former Democrat, Daren Dillinger, said in the article.
“Dillinger felt ‘nostalgic for the days when you could disagree with your party on an issue or two and still call it home,’ the report said. While standing with his party on some issues, he disagreed with Democrats’ language policing.”
If Republicans can run as the party of freedom in 2024, and against the big government lockdown policies of the Left, they have a real chance to win back the presidency.
Ron DeSantis showed in Florida in 2022 how effective that can be. He laid the groundwork for the Democrat agenda to finally be vanquished, and for conservative principles to be restored.
And these principles are so popular that even a number of Democrats are coming along for the ride and voting Republican to end the woke agenda.
