Joe Biden’s war on education has now entered its second year.
After he and his Democrat allies in state houses across the country spent years working to keep kids out of school, parents have had enough.
And now, one shock poll has shown that the Left is decisively losing the debate on education for the first time in history.
Joe Biden has been a disaster for America’s students.
After forcing through years of lockdowns, shutdowns, mask mandates, and other heavy handed tactics that punished students and parents at the expense of Democrat vote machines like Teachers Unions, the Democratic Party has a crisis on its hands.
And it all comes down to one shocking poll that shows how American parents are fed up and finished with the Democrats’ double-standards when it comes to how they raise their kids verses how they demand everyone else educate theirs.
City Journal reports, “As time wore on, many American parents also got a lesson in the power of teachers’ unions to dictate policy. School closures varied considerably by district and by state; one audit found that states with some of the least amount of in-person instruction during the pandemic included California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, and Massachusetts—all with strong teachers’ unions.”
Now, two years after the pandemic gave Teachers Unions an excuse to shut down schools and rob taxpayers of money while holding their children’s education hostage at the same time, it has become abundantly clear that states that re-opened faster and which curtailed the power of Teachers Unions, like Texas and Florida, enjoyed far better outcomes for their students.
One proof of this is the fact that Texas and Florida are some of the fastest growing states in the country, with hundreds of thousands moving into these two states from many of the aforementioned left-wing bastions where schools remained shut down until well into 2021.
But it’s not just the re-opening of schools that has scared Democrats like Joe Biden, it’s the public’s perception of Left-wing influences in the school system itself.
City Journal reports, “Pervasive discontent with public schools manifested itself in unprecedented enrollment declines. In the school year starting in September 2020, enrollment fell 3 percent, according to the National Center for Education Statistics—a trend that seems to have continued for a second year, according to a National Public Radio survey of major American school districts. Early reporting in California, for example, suggests that enrollment fell by 1.8 percent in the 2021–22 school year, on top of a 2.6 percent drop the previous year.”
The trendline is clear, parents are pulling their children out of public schools and finding better alternatives for them, many of which exist in either charter schools or private schools.
This transition has been backed up by polling as well. “n a 2022 poll, 18 percent of parents said that they had switched schools for one of their children recently, and more than half were considering changes. More than one-third reported that the main reason they were looking elsewhere was their current school’s pandemic policies,” adds City Journal.
The result of the existing trend lines and from public polling has become crystal clear for Biden and his allies within the Teachers Unions: parents are done believing the Left when it comes to the issue of education.
